Create a Spark Course

Create your course in Spark.

If you are integrating with a learning management system (LMS) like Blackboard® or Canvas™, see LTI 1.0 LMS.

Video Tutorial: Create a Course

  1. Sign in to Spark.
    The Class Content page opens.
  2. Click Create Course +.
  3. Select Create a new course, then click Continue.
  4. Complete the required information for your course.
    Course Name
    How the course is listed in Spark.

    Recommended naming format: Semester, Year, Course, Book (Example: Fall 2026 - ESL 030 - Reflect LS 3).

    Start Date
    The first day students can access the course.
    End Date
    The last day students can access the course.
    Which online practice activities do you want students to see?
    Select whether students can see all the course content and activities or only the content you have assigned.

    For the best Spark experience, select Assignments only.

    Additional Information
    Optional: Description or notes.

    This might include the course section or term.

  5. From the Select Program dropdown menu, choose the National Geographic Learning program you want for your course.
    Note If you are creating a course for the Online Placement Test, select General Online Placement Test.
  6. Select up to three co-instructors to add to your course.
    1. Click Add Instructors and select an instructor.
    2. Repeat for each co-instructor.
  7. Click Confirm.

Your new course is created and listed on the Dashboard tab.
