Assign and Administer the Online Placement Test (OPT)

Assign and administer the Online Placement Test through Spark.

Prerequisites
Create a Spark Course
Add a Student
The Online Placement Test determines a student's current English proficiency level, so they can be placed in the best possible class to help them progress. It should not be used to evaluate what students have learned.
  1. Click the Assignments tab in Spark.
  2. Click New Assignment.

  3. Click Add course to select resources.
    1. Select OPT from the dropdown menu.
    The Add course to select resources button opens a dropdown menu with OPT as an option.
  4. Turn on OPT OPT toggle.
  5. Click Continue.
  6. Enter the assignment’s basic information.
    Name
    Assignment title
    Start Date and Time
    When students can first access the assignment
    End Date and Times
    When the assignment is due
    No dates
    Optional: Do not set start and due dates for the assignment. Students can access the assignment throughout the course.
    Notes
    Optional: Additional instructions for your students
  7. Click Continue.
  8. Select the students who should complete the Online Placement Test. You can select:
    • All students who are currently enrolled in the course
    • Assign to all students, including students that join the course later
    • Individual students
  9. Click Assign to save your new assignment.
