Create a Canvas-Integrated Spark Course

Create your Spark course from your Canvas™ course to connect the two courses.

You will be able to click a link in your Canvas course that:
  • opens your integrated Spark course
  • signs you in to Spark
Your students will be able to click a link in your Canvas course that:
  • opens your integrated Spark course
  • signs them in to Spark
  • enrolls them in your Spark course
Important You cannot connect an existing Spark course to Canvas.

Before you begin:

  • Create your Canvas course.
  • Get the following information from your Canvas administrator:
    • The consumer key for your school.
    • The shared secret for your school.
    • The product ISBN for your course.
  1. Sign in to Canvas and go to your course.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Open the Apps tab and click View App Configurations.
  4. Click +App.
  5. Enter the following information.
    Field Value
    Configuration Type Manual Entry
    Name Spark
    Consumer Key The consumer key you were given.
    Shared Secret The shared secret you were given.
    Launch URL https://learn.eltngl.com/lti/v1/launch
    Domain https://learn.eltngl.com
    Privacy Public
    Custom Fields
    isbn=product ISBN

    Example: isbn=9781658234510

  6. Click Submit.
  7. Navigate back to Home.
  8. Click + Module.
    1. Create a name for the module, using the title of the program and level.
  9. Click Add Module.
  10. Click Add Item and specify the item details.
    1. Select External Tool from the dropdown menu.
    2. Select the tool you just created.
    3. Select Load in a new tab.
    4. Click Add Item.
  11. To make the link available to your students, click Publish for both the tool and the module you created.

    The icon is now Published.

  12. Click the course link you just created.
    Note Your browser might require you to open the link in a new window.

    Accept the notifications about cookies, terms of use, and privacy policy.

    1. If the Cookie Files prompt displays, click Got it.
    2. Read the linked Terms of use and select the checkbox.
    3. Read the linked Privacy Policy and select the checkbox.
    4. Click Update.

Your new Spark course is created.
